Owner Ben Bishop Jr. wanted to create a restaurant that would pay homage to Chesterfield’s roots. The result of his efforts is Bishop’s Post, a restaurant that touts “classic comfort fare,” but feels more like an American-style bistro. Bishop’s Post is a comfortable, beautiful restaurant, and its lush, landscaped patio — complete with a waterfall — is one of the loveliest in town. Food, however, is inconsistent. Appetizers range from a delicious sweet-corn and roasted green-chile tamale to a beef tenderloin bruschetta with caramelized onions, roasted garlic and Asiago cheese that is so tender it melts in the mouth. Entrees include a variety of steaks and chops, as well as bistro classics such as grilled duck breast and sautéed quail-breast medallions. Execution is spotty, but the setting and service are worth a drink and appetizer at happy hour.

You don't have to be a Lindbergh High grad to enjoy Hessler's in South County, but it doesn't hurt. The popular reunion spot serves up typical pub grub - T-ravs, burgers, salads, St. Louis-style pizza and wings, which include the choice of either Buffalo, teriyaki, sweet barbecue or honey mustard sauce. Thirsty diners can wash it all down with a pitcher of beer.

Besides pancakes in a dizzying array of flavors from chocolate chip to carrot cake (plus seasonal flavors like pumpkin and eggnog), the never-closed breakfast emporium serves everything from omelettes and waffles to chicken-fried steak and pot roast, plus giant carafes of coffee at any hour of the day. Founded in 1958, the pancake house is almost old enough to order off its very own senior menu, a privilege reserved for those 55 and up. IHOP's just a skip and a jump away on Voice Places.

Pin-Up Bowl is another Joe Edwards establishment that, like all Joe Edwards establishments in the Delmar Loop, is an insanely popular mainstay with both locals and out-of-towners. The bowling alley and bar draws the post-Pageant and typical Loop crowd: Wash U students, scenesters, misfits and everything in between. Blue neon bathes the handful of lanes, and whoops and hollers can be heard from the bar, but you'll enjoy drinking here even if you don't feel like swapping your heels (or Chucks!) for bowling shoes.
