  • Arby's

6666 Chippewa Rd St. Louis - St. Louis Hills

    317-353-2800

Arby's slogan ("Slicing Up Freshness!") is no joke. A corporate-wide overhaul of the popular roast beef emporium's menu means it has more one-of-a-kind menu items than most places with a drive-through tend to offer, and they're at your fingertips in St. Louis on Voice Places. Best known for its slow-roasted and freshly sliced roast beef sandwiches, Arby's also features "Market Fresh" sandwiches, as well as an expanded list of wraps and garden salads, while still maintaining the same something-other-than-hamburgers principle launched by Boardman, Ohio's Leroy and Forrest Raffel in 1964. (Most folks think that the chain's name, a play on the initials "RB," stands for "roast beef." In fact, it's short for "Raffel Brothers.") Its lineup of sandwiches piled with hand-sliced ("by people, not by robots," the company boasts) roast beef was joined in the early 1990s by a Lite Menu that features three sandwiches and four salads under 300 calories.

  • Boston Market

    6690 Clayton Rd Richmond Heights

    314-647-4500

There's nothing particularly Northeastern about the food at this chain. But whatever direction you're coming from in St. Louis, you can always find the nearest Boston Market on Voice Places. Need a pseudo-home-cooked meal in a hurry? Just roll through the drive-through window (or go inside to be mesmerized by all those chickens slowly revolving on the signature Boston Market rotisserie). The comfort-food menu includes juicy chicken and home-style sides like sweet, crumbly cornbread and ridiculously creamy mac and cheese. Go ahead, put it on a plate and pretend you made it with your own two hands--just be sure to replace the plastic cutlery with the real stuff.

  • Cafe Lazeez

    14248 Manchester Road Manchester/ Ballwin

    636-527-5900

A different kind of fusion cuisine: This tiny storefront offers Pakistani dishes as well as American fast - or fast-casual, if you prefer - food. The Pakistani dishes include richly seasoned chicken biryani, beef kabobs and chicken in an aggressively spicy karahi sauce. The American side of the menu offers burgers and pizza with all the usual toppings. The can't-miss dish is the "broasted" chicken. This is chicken deep-fried in a pressure cooker, essentially, and the results are sensational. The breading is thin, crisp and not overly greasy, while the meat is wonderfully flavorful and spicy.

  • Chick-fil-A

    17365 Chesterfield Airport Rd Chesterfield

    636-536-6933

Home of the original chicken sandwich--not to mention nuggets, strips, and those illustrious waffle fries, plus lemonade made from actual lemons--Atlanta-based Chick-fil-A found itself mired in controversy in early 2012 when company president Dan Cathy publicly shared his views against gay marriage. LGBT groups revolted and the media had a field day, with activists staging same-sex kissing demonstrations inside the restaurant and thousands of customers vowing to boycott the chicken chain. But ultimately the brouhaha doesn't seem to have hurt business; loyal fans are still packing the St. Louis drive-thru daily to be served by the most polite employees in the fast food world, who without fail refill drinks with a simple "My pleasure." Chick-fil-A's just a click away on Voice Places.

A local establishment that looks and feels like a sleek national “better burger” chain. (Can multiple franchises be far behind?) Uncharacteristic of the genre, here you are actually permitted to order your burger less than well-done. And if you dial all the way back to the stated limit of medium-rare, the result is very good: beefy, juicy and in need of little more than a bun to be enjoyed. That said, a plethora of cheeses, sauces and toppings are available (including some oddities like avocado, hard-boiled egg and fried pickles). The French fries (regular or herbed-garlic fries) are divine.
